Recap: Crisp County Cougars vs. Columbus Blue Devils
The Crisp County Cougars were the 56-52 winner over the Columbus Blue Devils when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Crisp County took a 66-51 bruising from Columbus on Saturday. Crisp County's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Crisp County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Zakariyya Dwight. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points along with five rebounds and five blocks. Dwight has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last 12 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rj Williams, who scored four points along with 15 rebounds.
Robert Hartford was his usual excellent self, scoring 30 points along with six steals and five rebounds for Columbus. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hartford has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Karson Baldwin, who scored 16 points.
Crisp County has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Columbus, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Crisp County and Wilcox County will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Wilcox County will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. As for Columbus, they will head out on the road to square off against Monroe at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Monroe is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.7 points per game.
