Baseball Recap: Murphy Bulldogs vs. Union County Panthers
Murphy extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 5-9. They lost 8-1 to the Union County Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 back in March.
Murphy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aayden Williams, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
As for Union County, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games.
On Union County's side, Lane Haney was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Haney is becoming a predictor of the Panthers' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 9-10 when he doesn't). Bentley Rich was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Murphy didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 14-10 loss against Andrews on the 17th. As for Union County, they have also already played their next game, a 12-4 defeat against Rockmart on the 17th.
