Baseball Recap: Point Pleasant Boro Victorious

Point Pleasant Boro won the last time they faced St. Rose and things went their way on Monday too. The Panthers came out on top against the Purple Roses by a score of 8-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

John Loizos spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nick Carmino, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Point Pleasant Boro's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-5 when he doesn't). Jake Clayton also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Point Pleasant Boro's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for St. Rose, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.

Coming up, Point Pleasant Boro will face off against Liberty at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. As for St. Rose, they will square off against Point Pleasant Beach at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The game will give the Purple Roses their first taste of in-conference action this season.
