Baseball Recap: Mclean County Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

McLean County took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Mason County, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cougars sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Royals on Thursday. The win was familiar territory for the Cougars, who have now won four matches in a row.

Jaelin Groves spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jax Lee, who scored two runs and stole three bases. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Corbin Martin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

McLean County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive contests.

McLean County's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Mason County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.

Coming up, McLean County will square off against Carlisle at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Mason County, they will challenge Montgomery County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
