Baseball Recap: Cass City Wins Going Away Against Reese

Cass City was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Reese on Thursday. The Red Hawks blew past the Rockets 9-1. Considering the Red Hawks have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Carson Anthes made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Cass City's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 7-2 (and 5-7 when he doesn't). Anthes was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hayden Anthes, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dylan Severance, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Cass City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Cass City moved to 12-9 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Reese, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5-1 record this season.

Cass City is taking a road trip to square off against Harbor Beach at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Reese, they will host Unionville-Sebewaing at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
