Basketball Recap: Vela Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Win

Vela had won six straight games and Jordan Bustamante did his part to make it seven on Tuesday. The Vela Sabercats put the hurt on the Rowe Warriors with a sharp 63-39 victory thanks in part to Bustamante, who dropped a double-double on 34 points and 12 boards. His afternoon made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

Another player making a difference was Derek Warkentine, who posted six points. What's more, he also racked up three assists, the most he's had since back in November of 2024.

Vela is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-4 record this season. As for Rowe, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-7.

Vela and Rowe should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Vela (ranked 144th) will meet Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest (ranked 1532nd) at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Vela is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.7 points per game this season. Similarly, Rowe (ranked 289th) will meet Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial (ranked 1283rd) at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
