Football Preview: El Capitan Gauchos vs. Atwater Falcons        
        
		
             El Capitan is 1-6 against Atwater since October of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit  on Friday. The El Capitan Gauchos will look to defend their home field  against the Atwater Falcons  at 7:00  p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication,  both  will really light up the scoreboard.
 Last Friday, El Capitan didn't have too much breathing room in their  game against Los Banos, but they still walked away with a  33-28 victory.
  Lorenzo Peters continued  his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 304 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 14.5 yards per carry. With that strong performance,  he is now averaging an impressive 125.3  rushing yards per game.  Diego Ultreras made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
 El Capitan didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. Ultreras picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown. El Capitan got some further help from  Logan Davenport: he made 12 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
 Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, El Capitan was unstoppable on the ground and  finished the game with 370  rushing yards. That's the most  rushing yards they've managed all season.
 Meanwhile,  everything came up roses for Atwater at home  against Buhach Colony on Friday as the  team secured  a  49-6 win. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won four contests by 24  points or more  so far this season.
 Atwater's win  was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from   Jeremiah Delarosa, who rushed for 77 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries.  Ali Banks Jr was another key passer, throwing for 104 yards and a touchdown.
 El Capitan pushed their record up to 4-2 with the  victory, which was their third straight  on the road. As for Atwater,  the  win made it two in a row for them and  bumps their season record up to 5-1.
 Friday's   matchup might be decided in the on the ground. El Capitan has been unstoppable on the ground this season,  having  averaged 200.2  rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Atwater struggles in that department as   they've been averaging 237.7. It's looking like  Friday's  match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
 El Capitan might still be hurting after the  30-10 defeat they got from Atwater  in their previous matchup  back in September of 2023. Can El Capitan avenge their  loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
