Softball Preview: Gowanda Panthers vs. Randolph Cardinals

The Gowanda Panthers are taking a road trip to challenge the Randolph Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gowanda is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Addison Kota made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Holland Browning, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024. Bella Maines also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Gowanda was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Like Gowanda, Randolph also got a great game from a two-way player: Grace Arnold-Hill. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Arnold-Hill was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

In other batting news, Mallory Smallback was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one triple. Jadelynn McMaster was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Randolph and bumps their season record up to 7-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games.
