Softball Recap: Trona Comes Up Short

If Trona was feeling good fresh off their 15-9 takedown of Non Varsity Opponent last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tornadoes fell just short of the Desert Christian Knights by a score of 10-8 on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Knights this season, with their most recent loss being a 5-4 defeat back in March.

Lily Mehan put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 16 batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and seven unearned) runs off 11 hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Samantha Burley and Nyomi Smith stepped up to the plate in a big way. Burley scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Smith scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Jade Martinez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.

Trona suffered their first road loss, dropping their record down to 5-4. As for Desert Christian, their record now sits at 6-10-1.

Looking ahead, Trona will square off against Immanuel Christian at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Desert Christian will be paying especially close attention to the Tornadoes' matchup: after the Tornadoes faces off against Lee Vining, they'll take on Desert Christian again at 3:15 p.m. on the 22nd.
