Recap: Kathleen Red Devils vs. Winter Haven Blue Devils

It was a good run, but the Kathleen Red Devils unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Wednesday. Their tough 66-43 defeat to Winter Haven might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Kathleen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Winter Haven is ranked tenth).

Kathleen lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Dariasia Pitts, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. Pitts is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Amaya Shaw was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

Leading Winter Haven to victory were Jaeden Williams and Serenity Hardy. Williams scored 16 points along with nine steals and six rebounds, while Hardy scored 25 points along with seven steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Hardy has scored at least a third of Winter Haven's points. Another player making a difference was Victoria Hall, who scored no points along with eight blocks and five rebounds.

Kathleen's defeat dropped their record down to 14-6. As for Winter Haven, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kathleen will take on Tenoroc at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Winter Haven, they will be playing at home against Palm Bay at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Palm Bay is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
