League recap: Olathe tops Bayfield to extend winning streak

Olathe added to the longest winning streak in 2A Western this week by beating Bayfield, 21-20. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Pirates.

Pagosa Springs lost to Gunnison 52-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Marcos Quezada threw for 11 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 36 yards in the loss.

Ryan Fitzgerald provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Aspen defeated Grand Valley.

Wyatt Williams made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Wolverines fell to Olathe. The 5-foot-11 senior recorded 1 fumble.

Fitzgerald was a beast in the backfield as the Skiers defeated the Cardinals.

Ivan Arizaga was the best receiver in the league this week as Grand Valley lost to Aspen. Arizaga tallied 7 receptions for 92 yards. Brian Hegwood helped Grand Valley's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 78 yards.

Mike Johnson's team's Tyler Scott and Arizaga have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-4 quarterback Scott has thrown for 1,727 yards this season, while Arizaga has 41 catches for 642 yards. Fitzgerald from Mike Sirko's team leads the league in rushing with 1,433 yards.

The top two teams in 2A Western will face off this week when first place Olathe takes on second place Gunnison.
