Baseball Recap: Monticello Comes Up Short

Monticello was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against the Boyd County Lions, falling 8-1. The contest marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Monticello saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gryfin Costa, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double was Costa's first of the season.

Monticello's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Boyd County, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monticello will host Goochland at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The game will give the Mustangs their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Boyd County, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Cabell Midland at 6:00 p.m.
