Basketball Game Preview: Sandia Matadors vs. La Cueva Bears

Sandia has won eight straight games at home, while La Cueva has won eight straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Sandia Matadors will host the La Cueva Bears at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Sandia's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Sandia is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Santa Fe, who was ranked eighth at the time (Sandia was ranked third). Sandia was the clear victor by an 83-60 margin over Santa Fe on Tuesday. The Matadors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 20 points or more this season.

Thomas Adams was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 28 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. Isaiah Brown was another key player, putting up 17 points in addition to six assists and five boards.

Sandia was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now racked up at least 20 assists in seven consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, everything went La Cueva's way against Manzano on Tuesday as La Cueva made off with a 74-52 win.

Sandia has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.8 points per game. As for La Cueva, their victory bumped their record up to 13-8.
