Merced put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past the Buhach Colony Thunder, posting a 49-6 win. Considering the Bears have won six contests by more than 31 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
It was another big night for Vicente Cortez, who threw for 226 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes, and also rushed for 57 yards and one score. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (157.9). Dougie Andrews was another key player, rushing for 76 yards and one TD on only seven carries.
Merced didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Brett Parker and Jake Hinman. Merced received some extra help from Tyson Espinoza, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Merced's victory bumped their record up to 10-0. As for Buhach Colony, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
