Softball Recap: St. Mary's Comes Up Short

St. Mary extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 10-14 in the process. They lost 19-0 to the Saguaro Sabercats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Knights of the 8-5 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Saguaro, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-13. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games.

For Saguaro's part, Malina Morones made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Morones was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Hailey Holliday and Sophia Chouinard did most of the damage at the plate: Holliday got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one triple, while Chouinard went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Chouinard is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Tyler Moag was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

While St. Mary's had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
