Basketball Recap: Mathews Takes a Loss

Mathews easily dispatched King & Queen Central on Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Mathews Blue Devils fell just short of the Northampton Yellowjackets by a score of 69-66 on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 67-63 back in December of 2024.

It was another big night for Antoine Horsley, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds for Northampton. Those 16 points gave Horsley a new career-high. Jaylen Anderson was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Mathews' defeat dropped their record down to 14-8. As for Northampton, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 7-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mathews will take on Carver College and Career Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Mathews' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests. As for Northampton, they will face off against Arcadia at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Arcadia sitting on eight straight wins and Northampton on three.
