Softball Recap: Salina Central Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

There's no place like home for Salina Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Goddard Lions 2-1. This was payback for the Mustangs, who suffered a 6-5 loss the last time these two teams met.

Valerie VanZant spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on eight hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Salina Central's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Charlotte Gordon, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Salina Central pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Goddard, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Salina Central beat the Lions by a score of 9-7 later that day.
