Softball Game Preview: Muenster Hornets vs. Electra Tigers

For the second straight game, Muenster will face off against Electra. The Hornets are taking a road trip to challenge the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Muenster has 15 straight victories, Electra has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Electra's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Friday: Muenster hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. The Hornets never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 14-0 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won 18 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Skyler Reed made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lilly Johnson, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Emma Walterscheid, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Muenster kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.

Muenster's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-7-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.6 runs over those games. As for Electra, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.
