Preview: Sutton Sammies vs. Nipmuc Regional Warriors
Sutton is 8-2 against Nipmuc Regional since February of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Sutton Sammies will head out on the road to challenge the Nipmuc Regional Warriors at 4:30 p.m. Sutton is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
On Thursday, Sutton came up short against Blackstone Valley RVT and fell 54-47.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Brennan Benedict, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tighe Rogan, who scored nine points.
Nipmuc Regional has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 66-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bay Path RVT on Thursday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Nipmuc Regional came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while Bay Path RVT is ranked 248th).
Despite the loss, Nipmuc Regional got a solid performance out of James McKinney, who dropped a double-double on 34 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McKinney has scored all season. Jake Giardini was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Sutton dropped their record down to 6-10 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Nipmuc Regional, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.
Sutton couldn't quite finish off Nipmuc Regional in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 and fell 41-38. Can Sutton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
