The power rankings have experienced a modest tune-up after last week's playoff battles. We'll dive into that and more in this week's report.
Welcome
Say hello to Sherando: the team broke into the power rankings at the 23rd position after its notable last-week performance. It had just enough, edging out Kettle Run 16 - 14. The outcome was a definite jolt of excitement for Sherando after its previous game, where the margin was anything but close.
Can't Touch This
Flint Hill's 36 - 14 win over Benedictine last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Miles Thompson. Thompson ran for 105 yards and also punched in three touchdowns. In fact, our algorithms singled out Thompson as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
The confrontation between Gonzaga (2nd in the power rankings) and DeMatha (3rd) did not disappoint. Gonzaga narrowly escaped with a win as it sidled past DeMatha 46 - 43. The victory raised Gonzaga up one spot in the power rankings.
Movin on Up
North Stafford not only got the result it was looking for last game, but the team outscored its opponent Mountain View in every quarter. Everything went North Stafford's way against Mountain View as it secured a 36 - 0 win. North Stafford did have the odds in its favor, but the team did even better than the MaxPreps state rankings indicated. The success catapulted it 14 spots up the power rankings, enough to make it the biggest riser of the week.
