Basketball Recap: High Island Takes a Loss

High Island's tournament run continued when they took on First Baptist Christian on Thursday. The High Island Cardinals were beaten by the First Baptist Christian Warriors 58-9. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1484th, while the Warriors are ranked 475th).

High Island's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cam'Ron Medina, who posted five points. That was a full 55.6% of High Island's points, marking the eighth time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points.

High Island's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for First Baptist Christian, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

High Island didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-32 loss against CHSA HomeSchool on the 13th. As for First Baptist Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 72-63 defeat against O'Connell on the 13th.
