Basketball Recap: Newman Grove/St. Edward Comes Up Short

If Newman Grove/St. Edward was feeling good fresh off their 64-15 takedown of Elba last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Newman Grove/St. Edward Panthers fell to the Twin River Titans 51-45.

Despite the loss, Newman Grove/St. Edward still got an impressive performance from Anthony Reader, who went 9 of 18 en route to 24 points and six boards. Reader's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Marcos Paez, who posted eight points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Newman Grove/St. Edward smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matchups.

Paydon Rinkol went supernova for Twin River, going 6 for 15 on his way to 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Corbin Rodriguez, who went 5 of 11 en route to 12 points in addition to six assists and five boards.

Newman Grove/St. Edward's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Twin River, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.

Newman Grove/St. Edward has already played their next contest, a 57-34 loss against High Plains on the 11th. As for Twin River, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 69-66 defeat against Madison on the 11th.
