The Deseret Peak Golden Eagles will head out to challenge the Sky View Bobcats at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Deseret Peak is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
Deseret Peak came up short against Bear River on Tuesday, falling 3-0.
Deseret Peak took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 25-22, 29-27.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between Sky View and Mountain Crest, and Mountain Crest kept the tradition alive. The Bobcats fell 3-1 to the Mustangs on Tuesday.
While Sky View had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 20 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-20, 25-23, 16-25, 25-20.
Deseret Peak will have to keep a close watch on Kinsley Stevens and Abby Thatcher, a pair of players who had a big impact on Sky View's prior game. Stevens had 15 assists and three digs, while Thatcher had five digs and two aces. Stevens is crushing it when it comes to assists: she's posted at least 12 every time she's taken the court this season.
Deseret Peak's loss dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Sky View, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-11.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: Deseret Peak has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.9 aces per game. However, it's not like Sky View struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.3 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Deseret Peak couldn't quite get it done against Sky View in their previous meeting back in September as they fell 3-1. Can the Golden Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
