Basketball Recap: Jackpot Sets Scoring Season-High Against Independence

Jackpot scored the most points they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of the Independence Colts by a score of 57-55. The Jaguars haven't had much luck with the Colts recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jorge Avila, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 16 rebounds. With that strong performance, Avila is now averaging an impressive 9.2 boards per game. Angel Martinez was another key player, putting up 18 points along with five boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Jackpot smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Jackpot's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Independence, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jackpot will take on Independence in a holiday battle at at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Independence and Carlin will compete for holiday cheer at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
