Volleyball Recap: Oakmont's Run of Five Straight Victories Now Over

Oakmont and El Capitan squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Oakmont had to settle for second. They fell 3-1 to the Gauchos. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Gauchos this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 back in March.

Oakmont started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 27-25.

Troy Maxsom paced Oakmont's offense, picking up 16 kills. Maxsom got some help from Adam Wegsteen and his 42 assists. Finally, Alden Barnhard kept Oakmont's defense grounded, leading the team with three blocks.

Oakmont moved to 13-11 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak. As for El Capitan, they pushed their record up to 31-11 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home.

Oakmont does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for El Capitan, they will take on Christian Brothers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Gauchos surely won't give up without a fight.
