The Hays Hawks are taking a road trip to take on the A&M Consolidated Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Hays has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while A&M Consolidated will arrive with three straight victories.
On Thursday, Hays lost to Anderson at home by a 29-14 margin. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 365th, while the Trojans are ranked 78th).
Although Hays took the loss, they still got scores from Eyan Stigall and Miller Johnson.
Meanwhile, A&M Consolidated never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past Cedar Creek, posting a 49-0 win. Considering the Tigers have won four games by more than 26 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Hays better keep an eye on Camron Roston. He was instrumental in A&M Consolidated's win, rushing for 236 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Roston a new career-high. Holt Goodwin was another key player, rushing for 22 yards and one score.
A&M Consolidated was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 423 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 182 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.
A&M Consolidated didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Kayden Steptoe, Darius Roberts, and Amarian Moore picked up one apiece. Roberts got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
A&M Consolidated's record is now 6-2. As for Hays, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Hays has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 183.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like A&M Consolidated struggles in that department as they've been averaging 256.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Hays was taken down by A&M Consolidated 49-0 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Tigers' Ja'Marlon Mooring, who rushed for 114 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight carries. Now that the Hawks know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
