Basketball Game Preview: Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls vs. Highland Hornets

The Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls will venture away from home to challenge the Highland Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.

Carlsbad can't be too happy about their upcoming road matchup considering what happened when they opened their season away from home on Tuesday. They took a 57-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of El Dorado.

Meanwhile, Highland gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They strolled past Rio Grande with points to spare, taking the game 74-60. The win continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Ravens: they've now won four in a row.

Highland's win came from a few key players Carlsbad will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Juan Limas, who almost dropped a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Edwin Montelongo, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards.

Carlsbad came up short against Highland in their previous matchup back in December of 2016, falling 76-69. Thankfully for the Cavemen/Cavegirls, Taylor Turner (who went 8-for-11 from beyond the arc to rack up 48 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals) won't be suiting up this time.
