Basketball Recap: Northridge Takes a Loss

Northridge lost against Utica back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Northridge Vikings took a 49-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Utica Redskins.

Despite the loss, Northridge still got an impressive performance from Ava Travis, who went 9 for 18 on her way to 22 points. That was a full 59.5% of Northridge's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Ruby Cermak was another key player, putting up six points along with five rebounds and four blocks.

Even though they lost, Northridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Northridge's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Utica, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northridge will head out to take on Mt. Vernon at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Utica, they will venture away from home to challenge Granville at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Granville's defense has only allowed 28.5 points per game this season, so Utica's offense will have their work cut out for them.
