Baseball Recap: Bishop McLaughlin Catholic Takes a Loss

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic fell victim to Strawberry Crest and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 7-0 to the Chargers.

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic had to settle for second despite strong performances on the mound from Steele Thalleen and Cooper Antalek Thalleen struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk), while Antalek tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Thalleen has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Bishop McLaughlin Catholic saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jadin Soto, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Soto is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Even though they lost, Bishop McLaughlin Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. This was only their first loss (out of four games) when they post two or more strikeouts.

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. The victory made it two in a row for Strawberry Crest and bumps their season record up to 14-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bishop McLaughlin Catholic will host Hernando at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Strawberry Crest, they will take on Middleton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Middleton has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.6 runs per game on average), something Strawberry Crest will no doubt try to take advantage of.
