Basketball Recap: Paw Paw Comes Up Short

If Paw Paw was riding high fresh off their 71-35 takedown of Hyndman Charter School last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Paw Paw Pirates took an 80-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Turkeyfoot Valley Area Rams on Wednesday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Pirates came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 109th in West Virginia, while the Rams are ranked 275th in Pennsylvania).

Turkeyfoot Valley Area's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bryce Nicholson, who posted 18 points in addition to seven boards and six assists. Nicholson is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Lance Jones, who scored 23 points and six rebounds.

Paw Paw's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Turkeyfoot Valley Area, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 17-2.

Paw Paw has already played their next game, a 79-63 defeat against Southern on the 30th. As for Turkeyfoot Valley Area, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 82-71 loss against Shalom Christian Academy on the 1st.
