Softball Recap: Cornell Raiders vs. Sewickley Academy
Cornell extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 3-6 in the process. They came up short against Sewickley Academy, falling 15-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Sewickley Academy this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in April.
As for Sewickley Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 11-3. The result was nothing new for Sewickley Academy, who have now won eight contests by 12 runs or more so far this season.
For Sewickley Academy's part, Charlotte Andrews (2028) made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Andrews (2028) has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Gabby Edmunds (2028) and Sophie Crichton (2027) did most of the damage at the plate: Edmunds (2028) got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs, while Crichton (2027) went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cornell will challenge Bishop Canevin at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sewickley Academy, they will face off against South Side at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
