Softball Game Preview: South Elgin Storm vs. Glenbard South Raiders

South Elgin has gone 9-1 against Glenbard South recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Storm will look to defend their home field against the Raiders at 4:30 p.m. South Elgin will be looking to extend their current 13-game winning streak.

On Tuesday, South Elgin earned an 8-4 win over Larkin. That's two games straight that the Storm have won by exactly four runs.

Jenna Sheehan was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, South Elgin let Kaidence Rumachik and Adriana Jimenez run wild. Rumachik went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run, while Jimenez went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Rumachik a new career-high. Emma Bell was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 13 runs the game before, Glenbard South was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They came up short against Riverside-Brookfield, falling 17-2. The Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

South Elgin's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Glenbard South, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-16.

South Elgin took their victory against Glenbard South when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Storm repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
