Baseball Recap: Charlotte Comes Up Short

Charlotte has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.68 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They lost 12-5 to the Fort Myers Green Wave. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Fightin' Tarpons have suffered since May 7, 2024.

Frank Planer made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Giglio, who went 2-for-4 with one home run.

Charlotte's loss dropped their record down to 14-8. As for Fort Myers, their win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-6.

Charlotte and Fort Myers should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. The Fightin' Tarpons (ranked 92nd) will meet Port Charlotte (ranked 294th) at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Fort Myers will square off against Palmetto Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (168 vs. 346).
