Softball Recap: Homestead Extends Winning Streak to Three

Homestead lost to Fremont back in May of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over the Firebirds. Winning may never get old, but the Mustangs sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Not much got past Mackenzie Smith, who gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks to keep Fremont off the board. Smith has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Elisa Coyle, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Cierra Hagan was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Homestead pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Fremont, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Homestead will head out to take on Saratoga at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Fremont, they are taking a road trip to face off against MacDonald at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Condor have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.17 runs per game on average), something the Firebirds will no doubt try to take advantage of.
