Softball Recap: Margaretta Polar Bears vs. Port Clinton Redskins
Margaretta fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Port Clinton on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Redskins by a score of 6-5. The Polar Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Redskins apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
Cassidy Lane put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out 15 batters over 7.2 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Lane was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Lucy Edwards made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Mattie Kovalaske, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
This is the second loss in a row for Margaretta and nudges their season record down to 2-3. As for Port Clinton, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-3 record this season.
Margaretta will take on Hopewell-Loudon at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Chieftains will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Polar Bears surely won't give up without a fight. As for Port Clinton, they will challenge Gibsonburg at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
