            Softball Recap: Garrard County Golden Lions vs. Somerset Briar Jumpers        
        
		
        
        
            Garrard County took a 15-run  loss the last time they faced off against Somerset, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Garrard County narrowly escaped with a  win as the  team sidled past Somerset  5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

 Emily Hounshell was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she  didn't allow a single  earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't  tossed less than six  strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box,  scoring a  run while going 1-for-3.
 In other batting news,  the team  relied heavily on  Jazlynn Shelton, who  scored two  runs while going 2-for-4.  Zoe Jordon was another key player,  going 3-for-4 with one  stolen base and one  RBI.
Garrard County's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Somerset,  this is the second loss in a row for them and  nudges their season record down to 5-3.
 Looking ahead, Garrard County will head out on the road to  challenge  Frankfort  at 6:00  p.m.  on Friday. Frankfort has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.71  runs per game on average), something Garrard County will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Somerset, they will host Madison Southern  at 9:30  a.m.  on Saturday. Somerset's pitchers better be ready for this one: Madison Southern has averaged an impressive 8.2  runs per game this season.
