Softball Game Preview: Lakota West Firebirds vs. St. Ursula Academy Bulldogs

Lakota West is a perfect 3-0 against St. Ursula Academy since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Firebirds will look to defend their home field against the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Lakota West will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Saturday, then bounced right back against Colerain on Tuesday. The Firebirds blew past the Cardinals 22-1. The Firebirds' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, St. Ursula Academy had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. Everything went their way against the Mustangs as they made off with a 16-6 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bulldogs considering their two-run performance the game before.

St. Ursula Academy let A Cosgray and E Schauer run wild. Cosgray got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Schauer got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Schauer has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was V Oberkorn, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

St. Ursula Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop Brossart only managed six hits.

Lakota West is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for St. Ursula Academy, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-3.

Lakota West took their victory against St. Ursula Academy in their previous matchup back in May of 2022 by a conclusive 11-0 score. Will the Firebirds repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
