Basketball Recap: Southside Christian Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Bryson Duck and Ned Murphy

Southside Christian was the 66-38 winner over Palmetto when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Southside Christian Sabres fell just short of the Palmetto Mustangs by a score of 57-54 on Tuesday. The Sabres just can't catch a break and have now endured five losses in a row.

Despite the defeat, Southside Christian had strong showings from Ned Murphy, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards, and Bryson Duck, who went 5 of 8 en route to 12 points along with six assists and five steals. Duck is becoming a predictor of Southside Christian's success: when he posts at least five steals the team is 2-1 (and 8-9 when he doesn't). Zane Hagy was another key player, putting up eight points.

Palmetto's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Maj Mccoy led the charge by going 6 for 9 to rack up 17 points and three steals. What's more, Mccoy also posted a 67% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cam Young, who posted 13 points and three steals.

Southside Christian's loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Palmetto, their record is now 7-9.

Southside Christian has already played their next matchup, an 85-50 defeat against Powdersville on the 5th. As for Palmetto, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 54-47 loss against Christ Church Episcopal on the 7th.
