Preview: Uniontown Red Raiders vs. Laurel Highlands Mustangs
Uniontown has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Laurel Highlands Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Uniontown's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five contests.
In what's become a running theme this season, Uniontown gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They breezed by Elizabeth Forward at home to the tune of 69-29. Given Uniontown's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while Elizabeth Forward is ranked 167th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Uniontown relied on the efforts of K'Adrian McLee, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds, and Tori Grooms, who scored 14 points along with six assists. Grooms continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamire Braxton, who scored six points along with nine assists and eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Laurel Highlands' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 16th straight loss. They fell just short of Southmoreland by a score of 55-52.
Uniontown's victory bumped their record up to 17-3. As for Laurel Highlands, their loss was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-19.
Uniontown strolled past Laurel Highlands when the teams last played back in January by a score of 66-52. The rematch might be a little tougher for Uniontown since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
