The Windham Whippets will take on the Ledyard Colonels at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Windham has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 8.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Windham's offense. They came up short against Wheeler on Wednesday, falling 11-0.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ledyard). They blew past Plainfield 16-1 on Monday. The Colonels have beaten the Panthers the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Panthers has come to flipping the script.
Calvin Casavant was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Casavant was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Tyler Spinner looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Carson Luther was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ashton Wuestner, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Ledyard always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Windham's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Ledyard, their victory bumped their record up to 4-7.
Windham beat Ledyard 10-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Whippets repeat their success, or do the Colonels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
