Basketball Recap: Harlem Takes a Loss

Harlem was the 57-53 winner over West Laurens when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Harlem Bulldogs took a 60-43 bruising from the West Laurens Raiders on Tuesday.

When it comes to explaining why Harlem lost, don't look at Jayden Futrell. Despite the final result, he went 5 for 10 en route to 16 points. Another player making a difference was Dai'John Sanders, who posted nine points.

Even though they lost, Harlem smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

West Laurens' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but RJ Whipple led the charge by going 6 of 11 on his way to 14 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Nas Jones, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds.

Harlem has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season. As for West Laurens, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-11 record this season.

Harlem wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 51-42 win against Hephzibah on the 31st. West Laurens has also already played their next game, an 82-50 victory against Aquinas on the 29th.
