Softball Game Preview: Carmel Corsairs vs. Benet Academy Redwings

The Carmel Corsairs will head out on the road to face off against the Benet Academy Redwings at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Carmel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.

Carmel is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Saturday. They lost 14-3 to Marist.

Carmel saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grace Brown, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Benet Academy had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They won by a run and slipped past Marian Catholic 1-0.

The result came thanks to Sophia Rosner's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gianna Cunningham, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

Benet Academy's victory bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Carmel, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.

Benet Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Carmel hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .343. It's a different story for Benet Academy, though, as they've only averaged .242. Will they be able to contain Carmel's hitters?

Carmel suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Benet Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Corsairs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
