Basketball Recap: Forsyth Country Day Comes Up Short

Forsyth Country Day and Cannon squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Forsyth Country Day had to settle for second. They were dealt an 80-52 loss at the hands of the Cannon Cougars. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Furies have suffered since November 8, 2024.

Forsyth Country Day's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Lila Kelly, who posted 25 points, and Gigi Lyons, who had 23 points. That was a full 48.1% of Forsyth Country Day's points, marking the sixth time in a row Kelly has scored more than a third of the team's points.

Leading Cannon to victory were Jakaila Gaskin and Madison Drayton. Gaskin dropped a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Drayton almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine boards. Gaskin is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 71% in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Khloe Thompson, who earned 12 points.

Forsyth Country Day's defeat dropped their record down to 12-12. As for Cannon, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 24-7 record this season.

Forsyth Country Day does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cannon, they will square off against Rabun Gap-Nacoochee at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cannon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.5 points per game this season.
