Basketball Recap: Hillsboro Comes Up Short

Hillsboro was the 57-47 winner over Vandalia when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Hillsboro Hiltoppers took a 76-62 bruising from the Vandalia Vandals on Tuesday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Monday (60), the Hiltoppers still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Hillsboro still got an impressive performance from Nathan Matoush, who dropped a double-double with 26 points and 11 boards. The contest was Matoush's 19th in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Mark Mattson, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Hillsboro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Hillsboro dropped their record down to 12-17 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Vandalia, their victory bumped their record up to 13-17.

Hillsboro didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 81-48 loss against Staunton on the 20th. As for Vandalia, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 49-41 win against Pana on the 20th.
