Baseball Game Preview: United Golden Eagles vs. Wellsville Tigers

United is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Wellsville Tigers at 5:00 p.m. The timing is sure in United's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Wellsville has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.

United took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Beaver Local, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Golden Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Beavers on Tuesday.

Parker Newburn made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Newburn was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season.

In other batting news, Quentin Taylor was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Wyatt Swanson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base.

Meanwhile, Wellsville lost 13-3 to Oak Glen on Tuesday.

Wellsville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon Ramsey, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Wellsville's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for United, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-2.

United took their victory against Wellsville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Do the Golden Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
