Baseball Recap: Southwest Triumphs

It's playoff time, and Southwest had no trouble coming through when it counted. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Coral Reef Barracudas a 6-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Barracudas recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Not much got past Euclides Alvarez, who gave up just three hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Coral Reef off the board. Alvarez has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Orisjoe Valdes was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Southwest's record now sits at 15-7. As for Coral Reef, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 14 of their last 18 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-19-1 record this season.

Southwest will take on South Dade at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Coral Reef does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
