Basketball Recap: Essex Falls Short Against Ranked Champlain Valley Union

On Thursday, Essex faced Champlain Valley Union in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Essex Hornets might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 42-39 to the Champlain Valley Union Redhawks, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Redhawks this season, with their most recent loss being a 42-39 defeat last Wednesday.

Essex's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 8-9. As for Champlain Valley Union, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-6.

Essex didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-49 win against Mt. Mansfield on the 22nd. As for Champlain Valley Union, they will challenge Rice Memorial at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Champlain Valley Union is facing Rice Memorial at the right time seeing as Rice Memorial is stuck on a 16-game losing streak.
