Softball Recap: Monroe Takes a Loss

Monroe extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 13-7. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Whitewater Whippets. The Cheesemakers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Whippets earlier this season, when they won 9-1.

Monroe saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayde Hawkinson, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

As for Whitewater, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games.

On Whitewater's side, Paige Kollwelter was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Kollwelter has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Jennifer Gosh was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Looking ahead, Monroe will face off against Clinton at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cheesemakers 2.8, the Cougars 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Whitewater, they will challenge Turner at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans' pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so the Whippets' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
