Preview: Meadowbrook Monarchs vs. Hopewell Blue Devils

Meadowbrook is 2-7 against Hopewell since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Meadowbrook Monarchs will look to defend their home field against the Hopewell Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many points in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Meadowbrook's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Thomas Dale, falling 42-8. Meadowbrook was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-8.

Loss or not, Meadowbrook got some senior leadership from Tye Morris who threw for 137 yards and a touchdown on only 13 passes and Disaiah "z9" mcdaniel who gained 91 total yards and a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Hopewell had to suffer through a rough 35-7 loss at the hands of Matoaca. It was the first time this season that Hopewell let down their fans at home.

Despite the defeat, Hopewell got a solid performance out of Cam Hunt, who rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown.

The losses dropped Meadowbrook to 3-5 and Hopewell to 5-2.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Meadowbrook has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 227.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Hopewell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 165.4 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.

Meadowbrook was dealt a bruising 36-0 loss at the hands of Hopewell when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Meadowbrook, Mason Cumbie (who threw for 229 yards and two touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
