Football Recap: Shelby Comes Up Short on the Road Against Kings Mountain

Shelby had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. The match between the Golden Lions and the Kings Mountain Mountaineers didn't end well, with the Golden Lions falling 30-14. The Golden Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mountaineers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Although Shelby took the loss, they still got scores from Jaylen Tate and Kendrick R.

While Shelby came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Kings Mountain: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 47.6%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Calvin Ramseur and Bryson Brown, who each logged one passes deflected. Shelby hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.45 or higher in six consecutive games dating back to last season.

Jarlon Drye was nothing short of spectacular for Kings Mountain: he rushed for 123 yards and two TDs.

Looking ahead, Shelby will be playing at home against Crest at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Kings Mountain, they will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against Burns at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
